Gavin

Gavin was 4 years old when we met him. On November 12, 2010, he was diagnosed with leukemia. He was admitted to CHOP, where he stayed for a month to begin treatment. He continues to get treatments.

Gavin has a twin sister, Dempsey, and we completed both of their rooms on Saturday, July 23, 2011. Gavin’s room has construction vehicles and Spiderman…and Dempsey’s is a Fairy Princess room! Reading nooks, tables to paint on/have tea parties on, and customized vinyl wall art were just some of the awesome features we had planned.

Josh

This is Josh! He was diagnosed with papillary carcinoma of the thyroid on December 21, 2009. He had a thyroidectomy followed by standard thyroid cancer treatment and his post-treatment scans showed several new areas of malignant activity in his neck, and his lungs looked worse they had than before treatment. Josh had neck surgery in January 2011 to remove lymph nodes.

We completed Josh’s space themed room makeover the week of August 6-13, 2011. One thing Josh asked for was some kind of rocket ship he could climb up into…so we took one of his closets and turned it into a little cubby for him to climb into…complete with a rocket ship shaped door! We were also able to accessorize his two older brothers’ rooms.

Lauren

Lauren was 5 years old when we met her. She has had a very tough road beginning with being born 4 months early and spending her first 140 days in the hospital. She has suffered with bi-lateral brain bleeds, has been on ventilators, has had collapsed lungs, undersized kidneys, and hearing loss. Her most serious condition now is a GI disease…called Eosinophilic Esophagitis which is a life-long disease where she needs G-tube feedings to survive. Her family has to take her to Cincinnati’s Children Hospital for her treatments.

Designing 4 Hope completed Lauren’s room makeover on Saturday, October 1, 2011 with a purple Tinkerbell room! Lauren’s little brother, Anthony, has also been sick for almost the past year with allergy issues, lung issues and ear issues and we gave him a sports themed room.
